What’s the Vision for Downtown Gresham?
Downtown Gresham is a walkable neighborhood that stitches together the historic main street and the transit center; that features various scales of activated public open spaces, has a variety of housing options, and supports entertainment, community-focused commercial, and the entrepreneurial spirit.

Draft Downtown Conceptual Framework Plan

Draft Goals and Objectives

  • Connect Main St, Arts Plaza, and Central Max through an “Arts Walk’ that prioritizes bicycle and pedestrian circulation, public art, branding, and wayfinding.
  • Create a downtown destination by turning two blocks of Main Street (between 2nd and 4th) into a fully pedestrian environment. Reroute public transportation to accommodate.
  • Festival-style streetscape upgrade along Main Street.
  • Establish and easily understood wayfinding and downtown branding strategies.
  • Support multiple types/scales of housing and commercial infill.
  • Consolidate city-provided parking into a district parking strategy to unlock development sites.
  • Reorient events to align with Main Street, Arts Plaza, and Central MAX connection.
  • Establish and robust mixed-use trail/bikeway to connect the Wy’East Trail to the Springwater Corridor.
  • Maintain Main Street’s historic character through design guidelines.
  • Improve key intersections that people use to access downtown.
  • Apply universal design and human health and wellbeing standards to all future downtown improvement projects.
  • Redevelop both Town Fair and Hogan areas into medium density neighborhoods. Break down the car-dominant super blocks to improve connectivity to wider city context.
  • Preserve large existing trees and improve overall canopy coverage of downtown.

Project Area Boundaries

  • West/East: Eastman Parkway to Hogan
  • North/South: Division to Powell
